Montshire Museum of Science 2022

Montshire Museum of Science 2022

Inside each of us there is a scientist, driven by curiosity and the allure of the unknown. The promise of discovery leads to the Montshire Museum of Science, where every day is a day of discovery!

At the Montshire, enjoy a truly unique experience, with over 150 exciting hands-on science exhibits, both indoors and out, a 100-acre destination located along the Connecticut River, spectacular views, and amazing opportunities for discovery.

Join us for a fun day at the Montshire Museum of Science in Norwich, VT (Just over the NH border). This is always a favorite museum for kids. We will meet at the museum around 10 am. You may stay as long as you would like; the museum closes at 5pm.

Our plan is to break up in to 2 classes for part of our time at the museum. The class times will be determined at a later time, as the museum is in the process of revamping their classes.

The Physics class our 3rd-6th grade students will be participating in will be The Balance Act. This hands-on physical science workshop lets students investigate balance, center of gravity, and mechanical advantage. Students will use their knowledge of mechanical advantage and center of gravity to create a whimsical balance toy to bring home.

The Weather class our K-2nd grade students will be participating in will be Clouds and Condensation. Students will experiment with moisture and temperature to create miniature atmospheric models. We’ll create clouds and frost and discuss the interactions that produce familiar weather phenomena.

Adults, older students, and younger kids are welcome to come along and explore the museum and nature trails as well.

Be sure to pack a lunch to enjoy outdoors. There are many picnic tables available on site.

FYI If the weather is warm, the outdoor exhibit includes water. Plan ahead for you child to get wet. You may want to bring a towel and dry clothes for the drive home.

The David Goudy Science Park features an array of interactive water-based exhibits that are centered around The Rill, a 250-foot long watercourse that takes a meandering path from the Museum building toward the river. The Rill flows down a series of terraces, and at several places visitors can manipulate dams and sluices to change the direction or volume of flowing water. Young hydrologists can store up a mini-flood and then release it to the lower part of the Rill.
